The senior men’s 8+ from DARC (Durham Amateur Rowing Club) has aspirations for Henley this year. In order to optimise their chances they will keep a boat in Tyne RC’s boathouse for the next few weeks. This will allow them access to some of the best water in the country for rowing and enable them to make best use of their precious training time in the run up to their objectives. Tyne RC are very pleased to welcome them and offer them the best of luck with their ambitions.
The Tyne is much less congested than the Wear at Durham where DARC normally train. In addition, it is possible to row continuously for over 10 kilometres on the Tyne without having to turn around. This allows long periods of sustained and focused coaching. Being a tidal river, however, means that the Tyne is not always as benign as DARC’s usual stretch but overcoming the conditions adds a further element to training.
Club members seeing the DARC squad in their famous blue and gold colours should not be alarmed. The club is not being occupied by a raiding party of Wearsiders. Please demonstrate traditional Tyneside hospitality and offer them a hand. Unless we are up against them in a Regatta of course!
