Junior Inter Regionals battle wind

Saturday, 28 April 2012
A wet and windy day in Nottingham saw all three Tyne RC crews reach the A Finals at the Junior Inter-Regional Regatta on 28 April. The day started with a strong tail wind helping Jake Bratley to the A Final in J14 1x, and Ellie Dobson and Bridget Stratford to the A Final in WJ16 2x. Both crews performed well and were both placed 4th in the finals according to their times from the heats.

Next saw the J14 4x+ of James Maccabe, John McAndrew, Matt Crooks, Rick McDonnell and cox Rob Fuller successfully battle waves likening the water more to the sea than a lake. With footwells full of water the crew fought on to achieve a 6th place in the A Final. A sterling effort by all athletes. Our juniors demonstrated a calm attitude to the tough weather conditions, competently managing to row well under pressure in their first 6-lane races.

Following the quad races the poor weather meant that all boating was postponed before the last heats had been run. The final decision came to run the remaining heats, but cancel all finals. Medals were presented on the times from the heats, and resulted in Tyne RC bringing home two 4th places and a 6th place for the Northern region.

A resounding success overall but a shame that we couldn’t race again to fight for a podium spot. Only one medal came back to the North from Cambois ARC's Kasey Jobling (well done to Kasey!), with the region coming in 6th out of the 12 regions.

Tyne RC juniors were a credit to both the club and region in behaviour and results, and the day was a triumph with fantastic support from parents and coaching support from Amy Ward and Mark Child.
