Rowing under Tier 4 from 2 January 2021- updated club rules

You can download below the club rules governing outdoor rowing from 2 January 2021. The weights room, the ergo room and all other indoor facilties are out of use (except toilets and emergency shower).

As per the latest British Rowing guidelines, opportunities will provided for personal exercise at given times. There will be no formal training or coaching as such, though there will be supervision when needed. Please ensure all members of your squad adhere to the following.
  • Members to arrive at slots, changed and ready to row, through the shutters and to leave promptly at the end of their session (no changing or shower facilities will be available) - emergency use only.
  • Masks/face coverings to be worn at ALL times when inside the boathouse as well as when getting launches out and boating.
  • Only one crew per boat bay when getting equipment out (single scullers can have one masked helper when getting a boat out).
  • All equipment to be fully washed down and sanitised post session following instructions at the cleaning stations.
  • Singles and doubles only. Pairs allowed during daylight (weekend) sessions. Only level 3 steers permitted at night. Steering competency info as draft is below.
  • Coordinators are encouraged to create bubbles within their squads - same double/pair partner or small group of 4 to make doubles/pairs from.
  • Private singles going out to continue to book slot via the spreadsheet. Only private boats allowed. Club boats will be available for personal exercise at specific times.
  • Safety launches allowed. Again socially distance and masks when you get them out.
  • Launches must be put away at the end of sessions and shutters must be closed when on water and after sessions.

Night time rowing - steers person experience/competency

We are introducing a check on who is out on on the river on a night time in the dark and responsible for steering and what they and their crew can do. This is just an outline here of what the three levels of competency (from 1 for inexperienced to 3 very experienced) can do. Individual rwoers/coxes will be signed off by the club captain or squad coordinator. Full details by end of January. This is not just for Covid!

Level 1: 
- steering between White House and blue house in daylight only
- steering in training only
- club boats only

Level 2:
- steering between White House and blue house at night, unrestricted daytime steering (tide permitting)
- steering in races and training
- club boats only

Level 3: 
-  unrestricted steering day + night (tide permitting)
- steering in races and training
- club and captain boats

Emergency response to rowing incidents under Covid-19
For all life-threatening or serious incidents at the club or on the water during the Covid-19 return to row regime:
Ring 999 - police, fire, ambulance or coastguard

If asked for directions, emphasise the club is on the north bank of the river, just along from Newburn Bridge and the Boathouse PH.
After dialling 999 and when confident help is on the way, contact an official of the rowing club as indicated in next section.
