On Saturday, 6 October, Brian and Craig (MasD.2x) along with Claire and Vicky (W.MasB/C.2-) made the long journey to the Thames for the Pairs Head. The event was not certain to go ahead; the prevailing northerly wind was running against the tide making the stretch from Barnes Bridge to Chiswick Eyot difficult. After an inspection at 13.00hrs the organisers announced the event would run.

The event was contested by over 450 crews and combined Seniors, Juniors and Master categories. Both Tyne crews started down the order and had a long wait marshalling in the rain and cold before being called to the start. Despite the conditions both crews had excellent rows.
The W.MasB/C.2- prevailed over their close rivals Cantabrigian; whereas the MasD.2x continued their progress finishing third in the Championship division beating crews who had previously beat them at the Masters Nat Champs in June. Happy and contented both crews went their separate ways, the girls to The Ship Inn; the boys for the journey back with the boats, arriving back at the club in the very small hours of Sunday morning.
The eighth and last round of the Northern Region Explore Series 2018 was held at Tyne ARC on Sunday 7 October. It was a Sculling Splash and Dash competition and ran in at times quite wild water. In the women’s competition, Tyne of your Life (Tyne ARC) opened the day one point behind TURC Ducks (Tyne United RC), so either could have won.
In the racing Tyne of your Life gained the maximum 8 points; TURC Ducks were 1 point behind on 7, having been beaten by Tyne in the best race of the day. This meant the honours were shared between TURC Ducks and Tyne of your Life in the women's league. The two teams will share the trophy across the river.
