What TYR is about
Tyne Youth Rowing began in 2023 with a pilot funded by Love Rowing (see link below). It aims to enable participation in rowing regardless of background, focusing on state school children in receipt of the Pupil Premium. The programme works to improve physical, social and mental wellbeing and support the development of crucial life skills.
The full programme targets children in school years 8 and 9 providing a two hour session for each pupil every week throughout the school year. Alongside the full programme the project has planned introductory/taster sessions for state school pupils and has run a summer camp for refugee children in partnership with the NEST (North East Solidarity and Teaching) charity.
Continuation after TYR
The project has also set up an Access Fund to enable some participants to continue in the sport at the end of the programme by providing financial support.
