The novice squad out on 3 August 2017 in front of the club
The information below is as at 25 August 2020
Introduction
Tyne Amateur Rowing Club is based on the River Tyne at Newburn, just west of Newcastle upon Tyne. It was founded in 1852 and is amongst the oldest sporting clubs in England. We have the longest and best stretch of river for rowing in the north of England.
The rest of this page reflects the unusual circumstances we find ourselves in due to Covid-19 and things will undoubtedly change from week to week as we go through the autumn.
Opening times for casual use by members
When we train
Before restrictions were introduced you would have found us rowing or training indoors on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 5.30-8.00pm and on Saturdays and Sundays from 8.00am till about 1.00pm. Each squad had its own schedule of sessions. The more limited arrangements under Covid-19 are shown here. Hopefully we will get back to normal over the winter.
If you are free during the day on weekdays, we run less formal Community Rowing sessions for adults. These are currently only on Wednesday mornings 9.30am-12 noon and restarted in July with restrictions to meet Covid requirements. Go to this page for details.
Learn to row
We are pleased to welcome new members. If you have some experience on the water, you may be able to start right now, though Covid has disrupted some if not all squads ability to absorb new members.
For complete beginners we normally run Learn to Row courses for both adults and juniors in the summer, with taster sessions preceding them over the winter. As at the end of August 2020, courses are still suspended due to Covid.
