Saturday 17 August 24 saw a unique occasion for the club - the combination of the formal Tyne Regatta with the informal Captain's Regatta on the same day. Tyne Regatta was small but perfectly formed, with 40 races overall. No eights, but quads, fours, doubles and singles. Racing was from 10.00am till 2.00pm on a rising tide and a breeze from the west.
The Captain's Regatta, normally a club member only affair, was opened as well to all competitors in the Tyne Regatta events as well. Crews were drawn on the day, i.e. in a well-organised rush just after the main Regatta ended! It consisted of a three way straight final in stable quads and then five eights competing in semis and a two-way final. These two events did not carry points or prizes but were, as always, very competitively raced.
