Cancelled due to Covid before entries opened
Tyne Amateur Rowing Club was intending to run Rutherford Head on 28 November 2020, subject to on-going review of the situation regarding local and national Covid-19 related restrictions. We were mindful that the situation might change at short notice and we kept in close touch with the local authorites. It was to have run with the assistance of Newcastle University Boat Club and Tyne United Rowing Club.
It was to have run two divisions and entry numbers were limited to 60 boats in each. The event mix was to have been very much simplified compared to usual and comprised only coxed and coxless quads and fours.
Entries should have opened at 6.00pm on Friday 6 November 2020 and closed on 20 November 2020. All entries on BROE for the first two hours on 6 November were to have been given equal status if the entry safety was exceeded. We would then have published criteria for choosing who was to be offered an entry we were if over-subscribed.
So that we could manage the event in a safe manner, and in accordance with British Rowing, local and prevailing government guidelines, we set out some criteria prior to opening entries:
But ......... it was cancelled due to revived Covid concerns.

- Entries will not be accepted from novice or very inexperienced crews that may require outside assistance or present increased risk in sometimes challenging conditions.
- Crews must be able to manage their own boating activity.
- Allocation to one of the 3 host clubs will be made once entries are closed so that numbers attending at each site can be managed.
- For juniors, entries will be for J16 participants and above.
- Participating clubs must have their own precautions in place for sharing of equipment but must also follow the location specific Covid-19 guidelines which will be published with the event instructions.
- Doubling up of crew members over divisions will be permitted but entirely at the risk of the club and participants entering.
- It is advised that anyone not doubling up should attend, race and then leave the event to reduce numbers attending.
- If oversubscribed, priority will be given first to local based clubs and then considering entries from clubs that may have to travel some distance.
- The course will run from Scotswood Bridge to a point approximately 200m downriver from the NUBC landing stage.
- It is advised that clubs must not bring spectators to attend the event who are not otherwise helpers, competitors or trailer drivers.
But ......... it was cancelled due to revived Covid concerns.
