The next Tyne Head will run on Saturday 12 February 2020

The 2019 competition in retrospect

Match report and results

We were very lucky with the weather. Mild and less wind than forecast, peaking mid-morning just as we were getting a little worried. Nearly 70 boats rowed in each division. Results for both Div 1 and Div 2 are downloadable below. Lots of pics at Big Al's Facebook page:

Well done everybody. See you next year.
Start order with times and locations issued

The start order with boating locations and times was issued on Thursday 14 Feb. Boating was from 9.00am for Div 1 and 1.00pm for Div 2. Division start times were 10.30am and 2.30pm (nearly kept to) and first boats were back at Newburn about 15 minutes after this. All Durham crews plus St Andrew's University and University of Surrey were at Tyne United RC, Lancaster and York crews were at Newcastle University BC and all other clubs at Tyne ARC.

Some Masters events were created using points and age group

For Masters, for each of two boat types (Open Mas 4x- and Open Mas 8+) we created two events, essentially one for high pointed crews and one for low pointed crews (high and low is relative). They were not banded on BROE as such, but more-or-less the same thing. Within each event crews still raced on handicaps. An analysis of how this worked in practice is to follow, but we think this created closer and better competition at both high and low pointed ends
