Who we are
The Women's Squad is a fun, friendly group of people who enjoy rowing together. We currently have an active membership of around 20, which we hope will continue to grow. Each year we integrate girls from the Development Squad and the older Juniors. We now also have a separate (though closely linked) Women's Masters Squad for older rowers.
We welcome new members who have had rowing or sculling experience elsewhere. We try to cater both for those who want to simply use rowing to keep fit and for those who want to race at regional or national levels (though maybe an emphasis on the latter). Complete beginners should go to the Learn to Row page for advice.
Training & selection
We have a regular coach, who sets a challenging programme to follow and gives up much time to be at water and land training sessions. For those wishing to be considered for boats racing at a national level, training involves four compulsory sessions a week.
Crews will be selected for the national competitions on a merit basis. Ergo times, technical ability and ability to move boats will form the basis of selection by our coach. Those who do not want to wish to compete at the higher levels are welcome to join in the sessions of their choosing.
Fun
Apart from rowing we all enjoy a night or two out together and a highlight of the year is the annual Winter Ball which brings all members of the club together for a night of fun and even romance.
Joining
If you are interested in joining the squad please email Jen Peacock at seniorwomen@tynearc.com.
